Building girls’ skills and confidence on and off the soccer field in Kenya

Watch how Moving the Goalposts is empowering girls through soccer with support from the Girls Opportunity Alliance.

Moving the Goalposts (Opens in a new tab) is a sports academy and youth program offering Kenyan girls and young women the opportunity to develop life skills through soccer while also advancing their education. 

In the coastal Kenyan counties where Moving the Goalposts students are from, more than 50% of adolescent girls lack access to education or employment, and many live in poverty.

Through Moving the Goalposts, girls build their confidence and gain access to invaluable resources to transform themselves and their communities. Through the sports academy, they participate in an age-specific soccer league while also acquiring leadership skills, health education, mental health support, and access to educational scholarships.

With support from the Girls Opportunity Alliance Fund, Moving the Goalposts helps provide 700 girls with scholarships and mentorship as well as access to literacy programs, a mobile library, and digital literacy courses.
