Bridging the gap in STEM education for girls in Chicago

This International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we celebrate organizations like Project Exploration that help girls gain access to high-quality, hands-on STEM opportunities. 

Project Exploration (Opens in a new tab), a Chicago-based organization supported by the Girls Opportunity Alliance, creates transformative learning experiences, career exploration opportunities, and pathways to provide comprehensive STEM knowledge during out-of-school time.

Project Exploration bridges the gap between STEM education access and underrepresented communities through programs like Sisters4Science. This program provides young women and girls with comprehensive STEM knowledge in a dynamic learning environment, inspiring the new generation of scientists, technologists, engineers, and innovators.

With support from the Girls Opportunity Alliance Fund, Project Exploration will establish a new Sisters4Science Design Lab at the Frederick Douglass STEM Learning Center, serving 60 middle- to high school-aged girls. This innovative space will be tailored to the unique educational requirements of young women and girls, fostering a low-pressure environment where they can unravel the intricate bonds between scientific principles and the natural world.
